My Design Style is to weave the feeling of relaxed and understated elegance into every project space, with no boundary for what is beautiful, specific by period or "what's in style." It's an approach as we work with client's personal style, blending tailored Classics, antiques + modern works of furniture, art and craft. All objects are viewed as art with function, balanced within a space to give owners a practical and artistic way to carry on in their life place and workplace environments.

Each one of us has preferences and needs that drive our design decisions through life. These preferences determine our personal style, influence our interiors and the balance of our perceptions of the basic design elements of color, form, texture and function.

Design and style preference is personal, individual to each person who occupies the space. Good interior design is the product of achieving a personal style that works in harmony with the owners and their space. This good design can positively affect outlook and productivity.

My work is an eclectic style of combining what is classic and modern; Sometimes rooms are more modern, sometimes more tailored or classic. This look is also referred to as a "tailored urban look" or "tailored mix". I like to add the words "relaxed artful elegance" to describe each of these titles, when I think of what it is I can offer each project.

The inspiration for "my style" comes from years of getting to know and experience the beauty of many types of furnishings and finishes in my travels through life and in my visits to view wonderful client homes and museum collections. It also includes many visits to artisan workrooms of fine craftsmanship. I am an observer. I'm always "on the look" at all around me, particularly what is fresh and new. It has been my opportunity to work in design all my life. I give each project, my inspiration for ideas, constantly nourished by my experimentation with spatial arrangements of furnishings and objects of art in my own home and studio.

The idea of designing and mixing furnishings using different styles also comes with its own unique set of challenges. The biggest challenges often offer the greatest rewards. Challenges are intriguing, peeking my interest to work harder and make it all work. There is also a unique excitement that comes with the success of a good design challenge. It is a great feeling for everyone when success is achieved in the design of environments where the balance might have looked to be impossible to achieve.

Making it all work artfully and aesthetically, "doing it once, doing it right" is what I strive for in all my work. It drives me!... I enjoy sharing my interest in fine design together with the joy in finding the artistic approach to everything I see and do.

This aesthetic appoach coupled with an inexhaustable energy and interest to find new ways to artistically feature a space keeps me in focus on finding a good design out of every project. The final balance of art with objects both new and what is older and owned, unique to my clients are what is "my style" to my clients.

For me, success in creating style is connecting my clients with everything that surrounds them. Then, editing and using color to highlight and thread it all together. It is all about the process of how to punctuate space. All it takes is a little time and some well-honed design tools...
It's a style that simply grows from my client's personality, from their assembly of collected and new furnishings, finishes and materials, artfully placed within their spaces.

With respect to specific types of furnishings I like, I can honestly say I enjoy at least one facet of every style in the decorative arts universe and throughout all the ages, both for rural and urban living. Every work is in someway derived from what is perfection in nature, all that is pure and in good design. A list of my favorites would include the high craftsmanship of the Renaissance, all styles and revivals, Art Deco, the graceful lines of Art Nouveau and Biedermeier, all works by Italians (my personal roots). The list would also include Empire, Art Moderne, Craftsman Style, Eastern Simplicity and twentieth century Contemporary works. I also love mid-century Modern design meshed with current contemporary design. Whatever the style, I lean toward creating a timelessness in design, using classic designs, high quality materials and hand-crafted art and furnishings.

Finding the right design solution, is about creating the "big picture" and the way it all feels and works together in the twenty-first century. A successful design while reflecting the people who live and work in it, should also last for many years It should not tire us visually, mentally or physically. We shouldn't have to replace it after a year because we used short-sighted, short-lived materials and craftsmanship.

Projects punctuated with objects that tell a story of their owners through inspired collections are pleasing to the client and perhaps my favorite projects.

Some my past Published and Public projects reflect tailored artful arrangements that give a hint to my signature style. In my portfolio there are a few featured past Show house rooms, exhibits and displays. These works show the results possible when I was given free reign to capture the beauty and excitement of a particular event, style, collection, object of art or furniture of specific style and fine craftsmanship.

My Color

What could be better than finding a great color that energizes a space and puts a smile on the project? Harmony and balance in color schemes is what we strive for in good design for our clients.

Successful interior and personal harmony draws from a harmony of color, texture, form, function and light. Personal harmony is a balance of all the design elements for the individuals who use the space.

Color is dependant on form, function and light. Working color into the balance adds excitement and fresh perspectives. It can change mood, create drama and unify space. Its like turning on the music to the words of a song. Color defines space and can enhance themes and cultural traditions creating a visual concert feast for the eyes. Just the addition of color can set the tone, define the space and provide rich backdrops and focus such as when it is used in exhibit design of private and public collections.
